WordPress Terminology

Below we have taken some of the most common terminology as it relates to WordPress and defined them for you, in easy to understand words.

• Content Management System (CMS): A system that allows publishing, editing, and modifying content, as well as all site maintenance from a central page. CMS also provides a collection of processes used to manage workflow in a cooperative environment. These processes can be manual or computer-based.

• Blog: A personal journal published on the internet that relates to what your website is about.

• Page: Pages are for content such as” Home,” “Products,” “About Me,” “Testimonials,”

• Post: Posts are the entries that display in reverse chronological order on your home page

• Meta Section: Meta data refers to custom fields where you assign specific keywords about your post.

• Template: Fully Customizable, pre-formatted page graphic installed on a website.

• Sidebars: Pre-Formatted Menu that appears to the right or left side of the page content, usually jammed packed with information, news links, deals, and coupons. Some San Diegobusinesses use a side bar on both sides depending on the amount of information they need on their page.

• Headers: These are images that are usually the first thing people see when they visit your page. You can customize the header through WordPress, and insert your Logo on top of the header.

• Widgets: These are Plugins that add visual and interactivity to your site, giving you more Web Design and structure to your site.

• Plug-ins: These are designed to give your web site more functionality without having to mess with coding. They are easy to use and wonderful additions. Some plugins include clocks, and calendars.

• Admin Panel: Is your Dashboard, it gives you access to everything you need to build your site.
