Google Maps- How it works
Well, it’s true, each and every SEO specialists will tell you different reasons as to why and how Google works. So what we will do is just break down the basic facts that contribute to getting into, and ranking well in Google Maps.
1. Business Profile/Place Page- as we discussed previously search engines automatically create your local listing whether or not it is accurate. So it is essential that you locate your place/profile pages across the net and update them. The more information you provide on those pages, the higher you are going to rank, that’s all there is to it. See Local Search- How to Optimize it.
2. Your business address- Ok, in order to get a higher rank in your local search results, your business address should be in your keywords. For instance “Karen’s Doll Shop” located in San Diego. If Karen listed her business address as her home address in Imperial County somewhere she is not going to come up in local San Diego searches even if her store is located in downtown San Diego. So your business address should reflect your actual place of business address.
3. Keywords- If Karen wants to be found in San Diego for dolls, she has the perfect business name to be found in local searches. In contrast, if her business name was “Karen’s Hobbies” people looking for dolls in San Diego are going to miss her listing.
4. Citations- GET SOME, GET A LOT!! See Google, as well as other search engines, rely heavily on citations. Citations are when your business name is listed else ware on the web. Basically what happens is the more citations you have, the more Google trusts your information on the web, which translates into higher ranking of you!
5. Consistency- Everyone loves consistency, so be sure all of your business information on the web is the same all the way around. This may require one evening of searching for your company and finding the different places it is listed and validating the information listed. A little time consuming, but there is nothing worse than losing a potential client because of inverted numbers in your phone number.
6. Claim your Page- Yes, that’s right; claim your local listing page/profile. Update it with the correct information and keep it updated
