Guide for Creating an Image Gallery in WordPress

This helps display images in less space while making it easy for the users to browse them. Let’s take a look at the things you need to do to create an image gallery.
Create an image gallery without a plugin
You don’t need to install a plugin to create an image gallery in WordPress. There is an in-built feature that allows you to create galleries easily. You need to edit the post/page that you want to add the image gallery. On the post edit screen select ‘Add New Bock’ icon then choose ‘Gallery’ block. A Gallery block will be added in WordPress editor where you can upload an image from your computer or choose from previously uploaded images.
Once the images you want have been added to the image box, you need to select them then click ‘Create a new gallery’ button located at the bottom right corner. The ‘Edit Gallery’ page will be displayed from which you can add or review your image captions. Once you are done click ‘Update Gallery’ button located at the bottom right. The post edit screen will open with the gallery block settings panel located on the right. Select the number of rows and columns you want then enable or disable ‘Crop images’ option. You can also select where you want the gallery images to be linked to.
If you select non from the Link options, you will disable clicking feature for the images. Selecting Media File Option will make the image clickable and the image will open when clicked. Attachment pages will open if you choose the Attachment Page option. When satisfied with the changes click ‘Publish’ and you are done creating the image gallery.
Create an image gallery using a plugin
If you need more features then you may want to use plugins. The Envira Gallery plugin is the most popular. It allows you to create full-responsive and beautiful modern image galleries in WordPress. You first need to install and activate the Envira Gallery plugin. You then need to go to Envira Gallery>>Settings to get enter the key from the Envira Gallery website.
Creating a gallery with Envira is easy. You just need to go to Envira Gallery>>Add New page and start creating. Select a title for the gallery then upload images from your computer. Select the pencil icon on images to add captions, titles and alt texts. Once you are done select ‘Configuration’ tab. Here you will be able to change your gallery settings such as image lazy loading, columns, caption posting, title, image dimensions and so on. The lightbox popup feature if enabled will help users enlarge images and browse without leaving the page. You also need to click on ‘Mobile’ tab so as to configure the gallery for mobile devices. When satisfied you can publish and you are done.
