Dealing with Comment Spam

As we discussed earlier when you publish Posts on your website, if enabled, readers are allowed to leave comments. Now, this is a very good idea because it encourages interactivity with your readers; however, it also leaves you open to spam comments. We will go over a few different ways spammers invade your website and give you some advice on how to fight it off. See most spammers are not only trying to sell you something. What they do is drop Google bombs! Where they will visit hundreds and thousands of blogs, leave their link in the comment section, and go on their merry way. See they prefer you do not see their link, or hope that you do not moderate your comments, because what happens is when Google index’s your website, their website gets indexed as well!

1. The first way is Comment Moderation- this means that all comments posted go to your comment folder and are held there until you approve them. You can find these settings in Comments > Manage

2. There is also a Plugin you can install and for a small monthly fee, it will combat spam comments. It has great settings where you can add words or URL’s to it to keep consistent spammers from returning.

Web Design can be tricky when it comes to combatting spammers, but with some diligence and the help of plugins, it can be accomplished.
