What You Need to Understand About WordPress Post Revisions

Not everyone is familiar with the WordPress post revisions feature. This is an inbuilt feature that enables you to undo changes and revert to previous versions of your post. The feature is also referred to as simply Revisions. It comes in handy when you make mistakes writing. You can then fix these mistakes during revisions. If you would like to undo the revisions all you need is to make use of these features.

What are they?

Just like the name implies, the WordPress post revisions is a feature that allows you to change and go back to earlier versions of your pages or post. This feature is possible because WordPress saves a temporary revision automatically. The revision is known as the auto-save and the WordPress post revisions feature enables you to revert to it.

You can restore your content if anything goes wrong before you save it. WordPress auto saves your post every 60 seconds. If your browser crashes or your computer hangs you will be able to restore the latest draft from auto save. WordPress also saves post revisions whenever you click the update, save or publish button. Unlike the auto-saves the revisions in this case are stored permanently in WordPress database.

How to use the feature to undo changes in WordPress

You will find the number of revisions under the ‘Document’ panel on the page or post edit screen. This is located on the right-hand side of the post editor screen. Click on ‘Revisions’ to get to the post revisions screen. Here you will find the latest revision of the post with a scrollbar on top. Slide the button on the scroll bar to see earlier revisions. Changes made in a revision will be highlighted in pink and green colors. You will also be able to know if the revision is an auto save or a draft. Clicking on ‘Compare any two revisions’ will split the scrollbar button into two. You will then be able to take the button to a different revision and compare them. To restore a revision all you need to do is click the ‘Restore This Revision’ or ‘Restore This Auto Save’ button.

There is no longer need to worry about losing your last best post. You can follow the steps above to restore it. This is all thanks to the WordPress post revisions. There is a lot more to learn about this feature but this information will get you started on the right path.
