How to Get URL of Images You Have Uploaded in WordPress

Are you looking for a way to get the link or the URL of images you have uploaded in WordPress? If yes then this post is for you. If you want to get a link to images that you want to display to other areas such as another website or social media then you need to find the URL of the images you want. This post discusses what you need to do to get the image.

Finding WordPress image URL

When you upload an image WordPress creates a unique URL automatically to every image. The WordPress image URL usually includes the domain name followed by /wp-content/uploads/, date of the image upload and the image file name. An image named travel.png will have a URL that looks like this: www.example.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/travel.png.

To get the URL of images you have uploaded in WordPress you need first to login to the admin area then go to the Media menu. Here you will find the media library of all the images and media files that you have uploaded. You can use the search feature to find the specific image that you are searching for.

When you find the image click on it and a popup window that has the image attachment details will open. The details include file name, file type, upload date, file size, dimensions and the image metadata such as image alt text, caption, title, description, image uploaded by and so on. The image URL is located at the very end. This is the link you need. Click on ‘Copy Link’ option to get the URL. You can now use the copied URL anywhere to display the image.

Finding image URLs from the Frontend

The above method will help find the URL regardless of whether it is live or not. If you need a published WordPress image you need to get it from the frontend itself. This is easier. Open the post or page that has the image and locate the specific image you need. Right-click on the image and choose ‘Open Image in new tab’ option. The URL in the address bar is the WordPress image URL. Copy the URL and use it anywhere.
